The Plague

There is a plague running around Bordeaux. Half the city is sick and the other half is soon to follow. It’s just not that big a city and people are heavily reliant on public transportation. Add in the cold weather and a dash of holiday stress and you’ve got…the plague.

I’ve been feeling poorly for almost a week. And of course the faster you fall the worse it is. I was feeling fine. I woke the next morning really congested. By early evening I could already tell I had lost the battle. Now almost a week later and I’ve got a nasty cough and sinus infection. Yay!

I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep up with my school work, my actual work and the apartment hunting and be well enough to fly relatively pain free in 10 (ok really 9) days at this point. So on that note – I’m going to go to bed and hopefully wake up in a much better place. Keep your fingers crossed.

Apartments, Holidays and More

It’s been a crazy couple of days. In fact I would go so far as to say this week was crazy and a little stressful. There were apartment viewings, bus issues, a wine tasting, a Christmas market, school work and the Cyber Monday prep. I wish I could say that things will be calmer next week but I think I’m looking at a sprint to the finish.

I’ve got school projects galore! And on that note – check out the latest post on my second blog! In fact, my team was one of the four from the English cohort chosen to proceed to the next level on our large professional project – the wine challenge! I’m excited that our hard work paid off but it means another round of crazy preparations and hard work. And coming up on the 16th of December I’ve got two major presentations for the same class. And to top it all of next weekend I will be on a school trip to Cahors. So…not much work getting done then. Oh well.. Continue reading

Tempus Fugit

Today I took a minute and glanced at the calendar. Only to stop and do a double take. It is already the 20th of November. This means that I have been in Bordeaux for over two months and I will be returning to California for the holidays in less than 30 days. Say wha?

Truth be told, I’ve been too busy to mark the passage of time closely. I knew in the back of my head that the holidays were fast approaching but I didn’t quite realize how close it was. To be honest, even though I don’t have any time off, I’m not really going to miss Thanksgiving and the holiday shopping madness that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Of course with work I can’t remain completely ignorant of it but I get to watch the ridiculousness from afar. But I am looking forward to going home for two short weeks. It will be nice to spend a little time with my family and friends in California.

But that visit is still 30 days away…I’ve got to get back to work.
