Another IKEA Adventure … That is to be Continued (Again)

This weekend marked another fabulous IKEA adventure as I try to get settled into my new apartment. What was supposed to be a solo/limited excursion turned into a grand adventure with 2 cars and 5 people.

After walking through the upstairs gallery (and of course goofing off a bit) we tackled the downstairs and the boxes. As far as dealing with the crowd on a Saturday, it wasn’t so bad. But then after we got everything back to my apartment, and up the two flights of stairs, we realized that one of the boxes we had picked was wrong.

So we all piled back into one car and returned. After processing the return and stopping to have hot dogs, lemonade and a macaroon, we grabbed the right box and got back in the car. Only to go no where …. for an hour. It was awful trying to get out of the parking lot. I owe a big thanks to M, C, M and J for putting up with everything.

Over the course of the weekend I put together – and in many cases deconstructed and put back together properly – the majority of the items I purchased. I have on more piece to put together – but the project is currently on hold until I finish tomorrow’s project and prepare for my exams next week.

I was feeling much more settled and was thinking that another trip wasn’t going to be necessary. Then I got home after my exam this afternoon to find my full-length mirror lying on the ground in pieces. I had left it leaning against the wall and in one piece. And no the bottom did not just slide out. It fell forward. What a mess.

So this weekend…I will be making the solo trek out to IKEA on the tram and will piss everyone else off as I carry a full size mirror back to my apartment. But this time I think I might invest in one with a base….

The New Apartment!

It finally happened. I finally moved into a new apartment. After a couple of months of searching (complicated by the fact that I am picky), I found a wonderful, newly renovated building in Chartrons. While the building itself is old, everything, and I do mean everything, inside is new.

Saturday with the help of my friend C, I moved everything from my old apartment to the new. It was fun dragging everything down a narrow flight of stairs to turn around and drag it back up two, but it’s finished. Thanks again C for all the help! It was only supposed to be the start of the moving but it became a fire-drill and we managed to get everything out in a short period.

I had initially planned on moving, somewhat reluctantly, into a studio. But lady luck was on my side. When I moved into the building this weekend there had been a bit of a delay in the renovation work and there was another tenant in my studio. Their apartment downstairs wasn’t quite finished and they needed a place to go. As the studio was the first apartment in the building finished, they ended up there. So when I moved in, I was placed in the one bedroom, which was my first preference, across the hall. It was supposed to be a temporary arrangement, but I found out last night that I can stay in the one bedroom! Yay!

Now…I just have to face the unpacking and face another trip to IKEA.

Pictures to follow eventually….once the unpacking is done.

End of year mayhem…already

Hi all, I know it has been a while since I posted and yes, I know it is January, the beginning of the year. But the school year is almost over and mayhem has set in. I have my first exam next week, I have more projects and presentations that I can accommodate, and to top it all off it looks like I will be moving soon.

I never thought I would say this but I almost miss the rhythm of working full time – but as they say, the grass is always greener. I forgot how exhausting the end of the school year can be.

Today I actually have one of the biggest presentations of the year. It’s actually a competition between the “French” and “English” segments of the class and it is entirely in French. My poor teammates have been shouldering the largest portion of the work, but I  like to think I at least helped a little.

I’m sitting here writing and trying to distract myself from the nerves, as I will be helping with the presentation … in French… in front of the company. That’s right, it’s not for a class  but for one of the Estates in the greater Bordeaux area. And it’s worth about 5% of my final grade for the entire year. Again…nerves are rampant.

All that being said, I’m likely to go dark for again for awhile as I try to dig myself out from all the work. See you on the other side.
